FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FOR ATHENS CO FROM 8AM SUN 7/7, THROUGH SUN MIDNIGHT, WATCH FOR CHANGING WEATHER

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR ATHENS COUNTY FROM 8AM SUNDAY 7/7, THROUGH SUNDAY MIDNIGHT.

ANTECEDENT RAINFALL HAVE PRODUCE NEARLY SATURATED TERRAIN ACROSS THE WATCH AREA. A PROLONGED PERIOD OF MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN, ASSOCIATED WITH A STRONG UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL PROVIDE ONE TO TWO INCHES OF RAIN ARE POSSIBLE WITH LOCALIZED HIGHER AMOUNTS.

ADDITIONAL 1 T 2 INCHES OF RAIN OR MORE COULD CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL CREEKS, STREAMS, ROADS, LOW LYING AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
