ATHENS CO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING INCLUDING, NELSONVILLE, GLOUSTER, ATHENS, ALBANY UNTIL 6PM. SEEK SHELTER!!

Severe Thunderstorm Warning

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR ATHENS COUNTY INCLUDING THE CITIES OF NELSONVILLE, GLOUSTER, ATHENS AND ALBANY UNTIL 600 PM.

AT 458 PM NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A BROKEN LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DESTRUCTIVE WINDS IN EXCESS OF 70 MPH.  THESE STORMS WERE LOCATED ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM 11 MILES NORTH OF NEW LEXINGTON TO 10 MILES NORTHWEST OF LAKE HOPE STATE PARK TO 15 MILES WEST OF JACKSON OR ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM 7 MILES NORTHEAST OF PERRY STATE FOREST TO 9 MILES SOUTHWEST OF LOGAN TO 12 MILES SOUTHEAST OF WAVERLY, MOVING EAST AT 40 MPH.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:

DAMAGING WINDS UP TO 71 MPH WERE REPORTED IN COLUMBUS WITH THESE STORMS. THESE ARE DANGEROUS STORMS, SEEK SAFE SHELTER AND STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS!

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 800 PM WEDNESDAY EVENING.
