FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR ATHENS CO 12NOON TO 11PM WED 8/28, WATCH FOR CHANGING WEATHER

Flash Flood Watch

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR ATHENS COUNTY FROM 12 NOON UNTIL 11PM WEDNESDAY, 8/28.

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCED HEAVY RAIN ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE WATCH AREA THIS MORNING WITH SOME AREAS SEEING ALMOST 3 INCHES OF RAIN. ADDITIONAL SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON AS A COLD FRONT MOVES INTO THE AREA.

THE HEAVY RAIN, FALLING ON THE ALREADY SATURATED GROUND COULD RESULT IN FLASH FLOODING.   RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES IN LESS THAN 3 HOURS COULD INITIATE WATER PROBLEMS. OF COURSE, LESSER AMOUNTS OF RAIN WILL STILL CAUSE THE USUAL STREET AND POOR DRAINAGE FLOODING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS; A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.   YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
