The Athens County Emergency Management Agency along with the Athens County local emergency planning committee for hazardous materials, (LEPC) will be holding a weapons of mass destruction preparedness exercise on Wednesday, December 11th. The preparedness exercise will be held at the Athens County Fairgrounds in Athens, Ohio, 286 West Union Street. The exercise will be taking place between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM on the 11th. Residence surrounding the fairgrounds should not be alarmed to see large numbers of emergency vehicles in the area on Wednesday.
The exercise is being held in cooperation with the Ohio National Guard’s 52nd Civil Support Team for Weapons of Mass Destruction based out of Rickenbacker Air National Guard base in Columbus, Ohio. Emergency response agencies from around the Athens County area will participating in the exercise include Athens County Emergency Management, Athens County Sheriff’s Office, Richland Area Fire Department, and the Logan Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team.
