Wind Chill Warning

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A WIND CHILL WARNING, WHICH IS IN EFFECT FOR ATHENS COUNTY FROM 4PM MONDAY, 1/6 TO 3 PM TUESDAY 1/7. THE WIND CHILL WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

HAZARD TYPES – DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS.

WIND CHILL READINGS – 20 BELOW TO 30 BELOW ZERO.

TIMING – THE COLDEST WIND CHILLS WILL BE FROM MONDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING.

IMPACTS – VERY COLD TEMPERATURES COMBINED WITH STRONG GUSTY WINDS WILL CAUSE DANGEROUS WIND CHILL VALUES. PROLONGED EXPOSURE COULD LEAD TO FROSTBITE OR HYPOTHERMIA, LIMIT OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES.

WINDS – WEST 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
A WIND CHILL WARNING MEANS THE COMBINATION OF VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS WILL CREATE DANGEROUSLY LOW WIND CHILLVALUES. THIS WILL RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA OR DEATH IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.
