WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FOR ATHENS CO UNTIL 10AM WED, 2/5, PREPARE FOR SEVERE WINTER WEATHER!

Winter storm warning

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET, WHICH IS IN EFFECT FOR ATHENS COUNTY UNTIL 10AM WEDNESDAY 2/5. THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

HAZARD TYPES – SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN.

ICE ACCUMULATIONS – A QUARTER TO A HALF AN INCH.

SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS – UP TO 2 INCHES.

TIMING – OVERNIGHT.

IMPACTS – HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE DUE TO SLEET AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS, ESPECIALLY ON UNTREATED ROADS.

WINDS – EAST 10 TO 20 MPH.

TEMPERATURES – IN THE UPPER 20S TO LOWER 30S.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SLEET AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.
