SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT – ENHANCED FIRE DANGER FOR ATHENS COUNTY THURSDAY, MARCH 27TH, INTO EARLY EVENING. GUSTY WINDS RANGING FROM 20 TO 30 MPH AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY TODAY WILL COMBINE WITH DRY BRUSH AND NATURAL DEBRIS TO CREATE AN ENHANCED THREAT FOR THE SPREAD OF WILDFIRES ACROSS SOUTHEAST OHIO THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING.

OPEN BURNING OF ANY TYPE IS CONSIDERED EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AT THIS TIME AND IS DISCOURAGED. BE VERY CAREFUL OF HEAT AND SPARKS WHILE OPERATING ANY EQUIPMENT IN WILDLAND AREAS. IN ADDITION, AVOID SMOKING IN WILDLAND AREAS OR TOSSING CIGARETTE BUTTS.

OHIO FIRE LAWS PROHIBIT OUTDOOR OPEN BURNING IN UNINCORPORATED AREAS FROM 6 AM TO 6 PM.
