ATHENS CO FLOOD WATCH FROM 2AM THU 5/16 TO 8AM FRI 5/17. WATCH FOR CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS!

Flood Watch

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WATCH FOR ATHENS COUNTY FROM 2 AM THURSDAY 5/15 THROUGH 8AM FRIDAY 5/16.

THE SOILS ARE MOIST TO WET ACROSS THE AREA. A FRONTAL BOUNDARY WILL MOVE ACROSS THE REGION LATE TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH THIS FRONT COULD PRODUCE FLOODING RAINS. THESE RAINS WILL MAINLY AFFECT SMALL STREAMS, CREEKS, LOW SPOTS AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS. THIS WILL ALSO CAUSE SIGNIFICANT RISES ON ALL THE RIVERS ACROSS THE REGION.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING BASED ON CURRENT FORECASTS. YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING DEVELOP.
