ATHENS CO FLASH FLOOD WATCH UNTIL 3AM SAT, 8/23, STAY ALERT TO CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS!

Flash Flood Watch

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR ATHENS COUNTY UNTIL SATURDAY 8/23 AT 3AM.

ROUNDS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED INTO TONIGHT. IN THE MUGGY AIR ANY SHOWER COULD CONTAIN A DOWNPOUR. THE SOIL IN MANY AREAS IS WET FROM PREVIOUS RAIN. IF REPETITIVE OR PROLONG SHOWERS OCCUR, FLASH FLOODING ALONG SMALL STREAMS IS POSSIBLE. RAIN AMOUNTS AROUND 2 INCHES WITHIN A FEW HOURS WOULD BE A CONCERN.

STRONG RISES ON SOME HEADWATER RIVERS COULD ALSO OCCUR TONIGHT INTO SATURDAY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION.

IF YOU LIVE ALONG A SMALL STREAM, MONITOR WATER LEVELS DURING ANY HEAVIER SHOWERS. BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED OR FLOODING IS OBSERVED. COUNTY AND PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICIALS SHOULD ALSO INCREASE THEIR WEATHER AWARENESS.
