Wind Chill Advisory

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A WIND CHILL ADVISORY FOR ATHENS COUNTY IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM FRIDAY, 1/9 TO 10 AM SATURDAY 1/10.

HAZARD TYPES – LOW WIND CHILL VALUES.

WIND CHILL READINGS – AS LOW AS 14 BELOW.

TIMING – OVERNIGHT INTO SATURDAY MORNING.

IMPACTS – FROSTBITE AND HYPOTHERMIA ARE POSSIBLE IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.

WINDS – WEST 10 TO 15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 20 MPH.

TEMPERATURES – 1 TO 14 ABOVE ZERO.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS. THIS WILL RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. LIMIT YOUR TIME OUTSIDE. IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS, MAKE SUREYOU WEAR LAYERS AND A HAT AND GLOVES.
