ATHENS CO FLOOD WARNING, SE ATHENS CO INCLUDING ROME, CARTHAGE AND TROY TWP UNTIL 7PM WED, 3/4, TAKE SHELTER IF NEEDED!

Flood Warning

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WARNING FOR SOUTHEASTERN ATHENS COUNTY INCLUDING ROME, CARTHAGE AND TROY TOWNSHIPS UNTIL 700 PM WEDNESDAY 3/4.

RAIN AND SNOW MELT ARE CAUSING STRONG RISES ON STREAMS AND CREEKS. WITH MORE RAIN ON THE WAY, STREAMS AND CREEKS SHOULD CAUSE FLOODING.

A FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS IMMINENT OR HAS BEEN REPORTED.  ALL INTERESTED PARTIES SHOULD TAKE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS IMMEDIATELY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE, TURN AROUND, DONT DROWN.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.

PLEASE REPORT HIGH WATER TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BY CALLING TOLL FREE 1-800-401-9535, WHEN YOU CAN DO SO SAFELY.  YOU MAY ALSO REPORT HIGH WATER BY POSTING YOUR REPORT TO THE CHARLESTON WEST VIRGINIA NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FACEBOOK PAGE OR BY USING THE TWITTER HASHTAG, #NWSRLX.
