Flash Flood Warning

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR SOUTHERN ATHENS COUNTY UNTIL 830PM

AT 425 PM DOPPLER RADAR AND AUTOMATED RAIN GAUGES INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING HEAVY RAIN ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. UP TO ONE INCH OF RAIN HAS ALREADY FALLEN. FLASH FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN SHORTLY.

SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE ATHENS, ALBANY, COOLVILLE AND STROUD RUN STATE PARK.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:

MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND NOW. ACT QUICKLY TO PROTECT YOUR LIFE. STAY AWAY OR BE SWEPT AWAY. RIVER BANKS AND CULVERTS CAN BECOME UNSTABLE AND UNSAFE.

TURN AROUND, DONT DROWN WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED ROADS. MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN VEHICLES. PLEASE REPORT HIGH WATER TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BY CALLING TOLL FREE 1-800-401-9535, WHEN YOU CAN DO SO SAFELY.
