THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FIRE WEATHER WATCH FOR LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES, GUSTY WINDS AND DRY FUELS FOR ATHENS COUNTY WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY 3/22 FROM 11AM TO 9PM.

  • WINDS – SOUTHWEST 15 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH.
  • TIMING – LATE MORNING THROUGH EVENING ON TUESDAY
  • RELATIVE HUMIDITY – AS LOW AS 20 PERCENT.
  • TEMPERATURES – IN THE LOWER 60S.
  • IMPACTS – THE THREAT IS ENHANCED IN GRASSY AND BRUSH FILLED AREAS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: A FIRE WEATHER WATCH MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE FORECAST TO OCCUR. LISTEN FOR LATER FORECASTS AND POSSIBLE RED FLAG WARNINGS.
