Red Flag Warning

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A RED FLAG WARNING FOR ATHENS COUNTY IN EFFECT TODAY TUESDAY, 3/22 FROM 11 AM TO 9 PM THIS EVENING. THE FIRE WEATHER WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

WINDS – SOUTHWEST 8 TO 18 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH.

TIMING – LATE MORNING THROUGH THIS EVENING

RELATIVE HUMIDITY – AS LOW AS 24 PERCENT.

TEMPERATURES – IN THE MID 50S.

IMPACTS – THE THREAT IS ENHANCED IN GRASSY AND BRUSH FILLED AREAS. ANY FIRES THAT DEVELOP WILL LIKELY SPREAD RAPIDLY. NO OUTDOOR BURNING IS PERMITTED.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EITHER OCCURRING NOW OR WILL SHORTLY. A COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS, LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY AND WARM TEMPERATURES CAN CONTRIBUTE TO EXTREME FIRE BEHAVIOR.
