FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FOR ATHENS CO UNTIL 10PMTUE, 4/26, WATCH FOR CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR ATHENS COUNTY UNTIL 10 PM, TUEDAY, APRIL 26TH.

LOCALIZED DOWNPOURS IN SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE LIKELY. IF REPETITIVE SHOWERS OR STORMS HIT THE SAME AREA, RAIN AMOUNTS OVER AN INCH COULD OCCUR. RAINFALL OF 1 TO 2 INCHES IN LESS THAN 2 HOURS COULD CAUSE FLOOD PRONE SMALL STREAMS TO OVERFLOW.  OF COURSE, MINOR URBAN STREET FLOODING CAN OCCUR WITH LESS RAINFALL.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
