Flash Flood Watch

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR ATHENS COUNTY UNTIL MIDNIGHT TONIGHT, THURSDAY, 6/23.

HEAVY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS COULD BRING FLASH FLOODING THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON.

RAPIDLY RISING STREAMS COMING OUT OF THEIR BANKS AND WATER POOLING IN POOR DRAINAGE AREAS, COULD CAUSE FLOODING OF ROADS, PROPERTY AND BUILDINGS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

IF YOU LIVE ALONG A FLOOD PRONE STREAM, PLUS COUNTY AND STATE OFFICIALS, INCREASE YOUR WEATHER AWARENESS NOW. MONITOR WATER LEVELS FREQUENTLY IF HEAVY RAIN OCCURS. BE PREPARED TO TAKE QUICK ACTION.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO, LOCAL TV, RADIO OR YOUR CABLE TELEVISION PROVIDER FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.
