Participants from around Ohio attend Basic Public Information Officer Course in Glouster, OH at HAPCAP facility


The Athens County EMA, 911& PIO Network along with the Ohio EMA Training and Exercise Branch hosted an EMA-G290/291 Basic Public Information Officer Series Course in Glouster, Ohio, February 15 – 17, 2017 at the Hocking, Athens, Perry Community Action facility.

The “Free” Basic Public Information Officer (PIO) Course is designed to prepare participants to function as full or part-time PIOs. The training helped to equip participants with basic skills such as oral and written communications, and understanding and working with the media, and basic tools and techniques needed to perform effectively as a PIO.  Fifteen participants from around Ohio attended the three-day training.

Emergency Management Agency is the central point of coordination within the county for response and recovery to disasters. The primary focus of the agency when not in a response or recovery mode is to ensure that the county and citizens residing in it, are prepared to respond to an emergency or disaster and to lead mitigation efforts against the effects of future disasters.
