Athens, Ohio, Recovery Operations Resumed in the Hocking River Sunday Morning for a Missing Middle-aged Male Kayaker

Search and recovery operations resumed on the Hocking River in Athens for a missing middle-aged male kayaker at 8:00 AM today. The investigation and recovery operation has been transferred to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.  Crews from Athens Fire Department and Wellston Fire Department are assisting with the operation.

The kayaker has been missing since approximately 2:07 PM, Saturday, July 8th. When six kayakers were swept over the Whites Mill water fall in the Hocking River.  Five of the kayakers were rescued by emergency responders or rescued themselves from the water.  Rescue crews spent Saturday afternoon and evening searching the river for the missing male kayaker.

No additional personal information is available about the missing middle-aged male because authorities are still trying to contact family members. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
