Athens Co Commissioners recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, honor Athens Co 911 with proclamation


Athens County 911 is celebrating the second full week of April (April 8-14) as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. This week, sponsored by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International and celebrated annually, honors the thousands of men and women who respond to emergency calls, dispatch emergency professionals and equipment, and render life-saving assistance to the world’s citizens.

Athens County Commissioners’ has recognized National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and honored Athens County 911’s staff by releasing an official proclamation.

About Athens County 911 Emergency Communications

Athens County 911 Center is a proud organization of professionals within the Athens County Government and is located at 13 West Washington Street. The Athens County 911 Center is the Public Safety Answering Point for Athens County.  The Athens County 911 Center dispatches for nearly all of the public safety agencies in Athens County, including fifteen (15) Fire Departments, six (6) Police Departments, Sheriff’s Office, Animal Control, Emergency Management Agency, and five (5) Emergency Medical stations.

Fully trained dispatchers maintain certifications in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), National Incident Management Systems (NIMS), Public Safety Telecommunicator, CPR, and Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS).

Athens County 911 is staffed 24/7 with a minimum of two dispatchers on duty 24 hours a day and up to four dispatchers on designated days and times. The staff consists of 13 full time dispatchers, a dispatch Supervisor, a technical support Coordinator, an Administrative Assistant and a 911 Center Director who oversees the daily operations.

The mission of Athens County 911 is to make a difference in the community by providing high-quality, professional communications, and to ensure responder safety, while striving to save lives and protect property. We aim to continuously improve through training, public feedback and teamwork.  Our goal is to provide expedient, courteous and quality service to the citizens and responders of Athens County.

About Athens County Emergency Management Agency

Emergency Management Agency is the central point of coordination within the county for response and recovery to disasters. The primary focus of the agency when not in a response or recovery mode is to ensure that the county and citizens residing in it, are prepared to respond to an emergency or disaster and to lead mitigation efforts against the effects of future disasters.
